International work in our Trust

The Learning Academies Trust is committed to giving all of its children the best possible educational experience. Whilst our school’s curriculums are designed to develop our children’s understanding and knowledge of their own locality of Plymouth and its surrounding area, the LAT is also committed to developing our children’s understanding of the wider world. To support this understanding, the LAT works very closely with the British Council and other partners to enrich and develop both our staff and our children’s understanding and knowledge of the world.

The LAT currently has a number of active and significant projects at both MAT wide and individual school level.

British Council Connecting Classrooms

Connecting Classrooms – with Cape Town, South Africa

Prince Rock have been linked with various Cape Town schools for over 10 years now and the other 2 original LAT schools, Woodfield and Salisbury Road also have very established links that have grown and blossomed over the past 3 / 4 years. The pictures here show some of our LAT schools linked staff working together last year in both Cape Town and Plymouth.

We are very excited to update that all 8 LAT schools now have a link school in Cape Town, South Africa for 2021 / 2022 and we are currently working on a very exciting ‘plastic pollution’ project together. More details on our joint work will appear here in due course as the collaborative projects develop.

Connecting Classrooms – with Ghana

Mayflower and Shakespeare not only have connecting classrooms Cape Town links, they also have active links and a current working project with schools in Ghana. More details to follow.

Erasmus – Working across Europe

As well as their international work with Cape Town schools, Salisbury Road are also actively involved in a Plymouth Teaching School Alliance ‘Oracy’ project across Europe working with Erasmus. Working alongside two other Plymouth schools and schools in Spain, Romania and Sweden, children will take part in The Great Oracy Debate. Focussing on the environment and climate change, children from across the four countries will work together to research, discuss and debate whilst practicing their oracy skills.

Jiaxing – China – working even further afield

Working jointly with another Plymouth School in a different Plymouth MAT, Prince Rock has historically enjoyed very successful educational and cultural links with schools in Jiaxing, near Shanghai in China. The Learning Academies Trust is now formally linked with a new school in Jiaxing called Xianghu international school and more details on this new and exciting collaborative project will appear here in due course as the link develops.
