Mary has been a governor at Salisbury Road School since 1999, a school she attended and subsequently her 2 daughters did. Mary is currently Chair of Governors.

Mary worked within the NHS in Plymouth as a nurse and later as a midwife for over 30 years. Unfortunately she had to retire due to developing arthritis in 2001.

Mary was elected as a Councillor for the Sutton and Mount Gould Ward in 2002 and has represented the ward since. She is currently Chair of the Wellbeing Overview and Scrutiny Committee, whose remit covers health provision, social care and children’s education amongst many other topics.

Mary was Lord Mayor of Plymouth in 2010 -11 when she was able to publically recognise all of the time given freely by our many community volunteers that keeps our services to children functioning.
