Tessa Saunders

Tessa Saunders is the Headteacher of Woodfield Primary and Nursery School in Whitleigh.  Tessa joined the school in 2010 as the Maths and Computing lead as well as the Year 1 teacher.  Over the years she has taken on many other roles at the school, including Assistant Headteacher and Head of School.  In that time Tessa played a key role in the development of the school under the previous Headteacher helping the school achieve their two most recent, successful Ofsted inspections.  Tessa is currently working with a fantastic team that are continuing to raise standards and aspirations for all the children at Woodfield.

Tessa moved to Plymouth to train as a teacher at Marjon University and once qualified she worked in a variety of schools in Plymouth, Devon and Torquay before starting at Woodfield.  During her time at Woodfield Tessa has been a PLE (Primary Leader in Education) and an SLE (Specialist Leader in Education) working for the Plymouth Teaching School supporting teachers and schools across the City to improve especially with Maths and Early Years.

Tessa believes passionately in equity in education and ensuring that children reach their full potential. She has worked hard to develop the school’s relational approach and she shares these ideas and practises with other schools across the Trust.
